What is Gestalt therapy?

Gestalt therapy is a humanistic, experiential approach to psychotherapy that focuses on increasing awareness of your thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, and relationships in the present moment. Rather than only exploring the past, we pay attention to what is happening "here and now" and how patterns show up in your current life.

What does a session look like?

Each session is guided by what feels most important to you. We may explore your thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, or interactions as they arise. Sometimes we use experiential exercises, creative techniques, or mindfulness practices, but only if they feel appropriate and helpful to you.

What issues can you help with?

I work with adults experiencing a range of personal, relational, and life challenges, including:

  • High-functioning anxiety, stress, burnout, overthinking, and perfectionism

  • Career, self-employment, workplace stress, imposter syndrome, and finding balance

  • Limiting beliefs, old patterns, confidence, self-worth, and creating meaningful change

  • Life transitions, identity exploration, and strengthening sense of self

  • Boundaries, communication, emotional awareness, vulnerability, and emotional regulation

  • Relationship challenges, including ethical non-monogamy, co-dependency, and attachment patterns

  • Family, friendship, and workplace dynamics

  • Reparenting, inner child work, emotional neglect, and attachment patterns

  • First-generation immigrant experiences, cross-cultural identity, belonging, and acculturation

  • Grief, personal growth, and living authentically

As a student therapist, I practice under clinical supervision and within my scope of competence. If your needs fall outside my area of practice, I'll help connect you with a therapist or service that is better suited to support you.

Is everything I share confidential?

Yes. Your privacy is very important. Everything discussed in therapy is confidential, with a few legal and ethical exceptions, such as situations involving immediate risk of serious harm, suspected abuse where reporting is required, or when records are ordered by a court. I'll explain confidentiality in detail before we begin.

How long and how much is a session?

Individual therapy sessions are 50 minutes and are $70 per session.

As I am a student therapist, sessions are not typically covered by extended health insurance plans. I encourage you to check with your insurance provider to confirm your coverage.

If cost is a barrier, please don't hesitate to ask about our sliding scale options.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no set number. Some people attend for a few sessions to work on a specific issue, while others choose longer-term therapy for deeper personal growth. We will regularly review your goals together.

Do I have to talk about my past?

Not unless you want to. While your past can be important, Gestalt therapy often focuses on how past experiences influence your present thoughts, emotions, and relationships.

Will you give me advice?

Rather than telling you what to do, I'll help you explore your experiences, identify patterns, and discover choices that feel authentic and meaningful to you.

What if I've never been to therapy before?

That's completely okay. Many clients are new to therapy. I'll explain the process, answer your questions, and work at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

What happens in the first session?

Our first session is an opportunity to get to know each other. We'll discuss what brings you to therapy, your goals, any relevant background, and whether we're a good fit to work together.

Is Gestalt therapy right for everyone?

No single approach is the best fit for everyone. During our first few sessions, we'll explore whether Gestalt therapy aligns with your goals. If another approach or therapist would better meet your needs, I'll help you explore appropriate options.
